| 09.03.07 Greens Call on Labor to Rule out Preferencing Liberals in Balmain |
|
The Greens in Balmain are calling on the Labor Party to rule out preferencing the Liberal Party ahead of the Greens in the seat of Balmain. Labor delivered Leichhardt its first Liberal mayor in a preference deal at the last Council election.

“We have decided to advise our voters to preference the Labor Party and not the Liberals because of the Liberal party’s support for their extreme and unfair WorkChoices laws,” said Greens candidate Rochelle Porteous.
“But I am concerned that Labor will preference the Liberals ahead of the Greens as they did in the last local government elections in this area.”
“Since the election Labor has maintained a close relationship with the Liberals on Council, voting for the only Liberal mayor in the history of Leichhardt.”
“They have voted together in the NSW Parliament to support developer donations, to gut our planning laws and privatise our water supply.”
“Labor is trying to downplay the significance of their deal with the Liberals, but we are concerned that they may be cooking up something together.”
“We call on Labor to preference the only other anti-WorkChoices party that can win the seat of Balmain - the Greens.”
